If your Hisense TV remote app won't connect, put your phone and TV on the same Wi-Fi network, then restart both. Most failures come from a 2.4GHz/5GHz band mismatch, an outdated app, or the wrong app for your TV's OS. Toggle those three things and the app usually pairs again in under a minute.

I've tested remote apps on a Hisense U6K, an A6H, and an older R6 Roku model. The U6K paired instantly over VIDAA. The R6 needed the Roku app instead—VIDAA-based apps just won't see a Roku TV. Your TV's operating system matters more than which app you download.

The 30-Second Test

Before deep fixes, run this quick check. Open your phone's Wi-Fi settings and note the exact network name. Then check the TV's network name under its Settings menu.

If the two names don't match exactly, that's your problem. No app fix will help until both devices sit on one network. Many homes have a "MyWiFi" and a "MyWiFi-5G"—your phone and TV must be on the same one.

Fix 1: Put Your Phone and TV on the Same Wi-Fi

This solves most connection failures. The app and TV talk over your local network, so they must share it. If your TV won't connect to Wi-Fi at all, fix that first.

Check the TV's network here:

  • VIDAA: Home > Settings (gear) > Network > Network Configuration
  • Google TV: Settings > Network & Internet
  • Roku TV: Settings > Network > About

When this won't work: Guest networks and routers with "AP isolation" block device-to-device traffic. Even on one network, the app still can't reach the TV. See Fix 5 for that.

Fix 2: Update the App and the TV Firmware

Old firmware breaks the pairing handshake. This is the fix people skip most. Update the app first from the App Store or Google Play, then update the TV.

Find the TV update here:

  • VIDAA: Settings > Support > System Update > Check for Update
  • Google TV: Settings > System > About > System update
  • Roku TV: Settings > System > System update > Check now

When this won't work: A TV with no internet can't pull updates. If your remote is lost too, you may need to update the TV manually or over a wired connection first.

Fix 3: Power-Cycle the TV and Router

A stale network session is a common cause of "app connected yesterday, not today." Unplug the TV from the wall for 60 seconds. While you wait, restart your router too.

Plug the TV back in, let it fully boot, then reopen the app. This clears the TV's network stack and forces a fresh IP address. It fixes lag and random disconnects more often than any setting change.

When this won't work: If the app reconnects but drops again within minutes, your router is likely reassigning the TV's IP. Set a static IP or DHCP reservation in your router for the TV.

Still stuck after three fixes? You don't have to sit in front of a dead TV. The HiRemote app turns your iPhone into a full Hisense remote over Wi-Fi—volume, power, inputs, and apps. When you can't install anything, the browser-based Hisense Roku TV remote works from any phone or laptop with no download. Both are handy backups while you finish troubleshooting.

Fix 4: Match the App to Your TV's OS

Hisense ships four different operating systems, and remote apps are not cross-compatible. A VIDAA app will never control a Roku TV. If you're not sure which OS you have, check the TV's home screen layout.

Your Hisense OSVIDAA-based apps work?Best app to useWhy
VIDAA (U / A / ES series)YesRemoteNOW or HiRemoteNative Wi-Fi control
Roku TV (R series)NoRoku app or HiRemoteRoku uses its own protocol
Google TV (some 2022+)PartialGoogle TV app or HiRemoteUses Google's cast control
Fire TV (F series)NoFire TV appAmazon's own protocol

When this won't work: Some 2020 budget models have a locked-down VIDAA build that blocks mobile control entirely. In that case, a browser remote or a universal IR blaster is your only path.

Fix 5: Turn Off VPN and AP Isolation

A VPN on your phone routes traffic away from your local network, so the app can't find the TV. Turn the VPN off and try again. This is a two-second test people forget.

Next, check your router settings for "AP isolation," "client isolation," or "guest mode." Any of these block your phone from reaching the TV. Log into your router's admin page and switch them off.

When this won't work: On mesh systems, each node can isolate devices. If your phone and TV connect to different mesh nodes, control still fails. Move both closer to the main router to test.

Fix 6: Use a Backup Remote While You Troubleshoot

You should never lose access to your TV just because one app misbehaves. Keep a fallback ready. A browser-based remote works instantly with no install and no account.

If your physical remote is also gone, these guides get you back in control fast:

When this won't work: A browser or app remote still needs the TV on the network. If the TV is fully offline, use the physical buttons on the panel until Wi-Fi is restored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won't my Hisense remote app connect to my TV?

Your phone and TV are almost always on different Wi-Fi networks or bands. Put both on the exact same network name, then restart the TV. Other common causes are an outdated app, old TV firmware, a VPN running on your phone, or router AP isolation blocking device-to-device traffic. Fixing the network match solves most cases.

Does the Hisense remote app work without Wi-Fi?

No, most Hisense remote apps need Wi-Fi because they control the TV over your local network. Without Wi-Fi, the app has no way to reach the TV. Your options are an infrared blaster phone, a physical universal remote (program it with the right Hisense TV remote codes), or the buttons on the TV panel. See our Wi-Fi-free remote guide for the full list of workarounds.

Which remote app works for a Hisense Roku TV?

Use the official Roku app for a Hisense Roku TV, not a VIDAA-based app. Roku TVs use their own control protocol, so VIDAA apps like RemoteNOW simply won't see them. HiRemote and the browser-based Hisense Roku remote also work. Check your TV's home screen—if it shows Roku's tile layout, you have a Roku model.

Why does the remote app keep disconnecting?

Your router is likely reassigning the TV's IP address, which breaks the app's session. Set a static IP or DHCP reservation for the TV in your router settings. Weak signal, mesh node switching, and power-saving modes on the TV also cause drops. Keeping the TV close to the router and disabling its eco/standby network setting usually stops it.

Can I use my phone as a Hisense remote without the original remote?

Yes, a phone app or browser remote replaces the physical remote completely over Wi-Fi. It controls power, volume, inputs, and streaming apps. You only need the TV and phone on the same network. If the TV isn't connected to Wi-Fi yet, connect it using the panel buttons or one of our no-remote setup guides first.

Do I need Bluetooth for the Hisense remote app?

No, most Hisense remote apps use Wi-Fi, not Bluetooth, to control the TV. Both devices just need to share the same network. Bluetooth only matters for pairing certain physical voice remotes, not phone apps. If an app asks for Bluetooth, it's usually for extra features like keyboard input, not the core remote function.
