How to Program Spectrum Remote TV Codes

Flip the remote over and look in the battery bay. Current Spectrum remotes ask for a 5-digit TV code after you hold SETUP. Older Charter clickers sometimes want 4 digits instead — do not force a 5-digit number into those.

Decide what you actually need before you type codes:

• Power and volume only: a Spectrum code is enough on most VIDAA and Google TV Hisense sets.
• No SETUP button: skip to Method 3 and use the Spectrum box menu.
• Purple Roku home screen: stop. No Spectrum IR code will program that TV.
• Netflix, Home, or a real keyboard: a code will not get you there. Use your phone.

Method 1: Enter a 5-digit Spectrum TV code

Manual entry is the fastest path when your remote has a SETUP button. Our Hisense tracker lists three Spectrum codes. Try them in this order, one at a time.

We only publish Hisense codes we can stand behind. For Samsung, LG, Vizio, or Sony, use Spectrum's official lookup — we will not invent those tables. Auto-search in Method 2 also works when you do not have a brand list.

1. Turn the TV on. Use the set's power button if the remote is blank.
2. Press and hold SETUP until the status LED blinks twice.
3. Press the TV button. The LED should stay lit.
4. Type one 5-digit code from the table. Start with 11756.
5. The LED blinks twice if the remote accepts the code.
6. Aim at the TV — not the cable box — and press POWER.
7. If the TV turns off, test volume and mute. Then stop.
8. No response? Repeat from step 2 with the next code.

Write down the code that works. Spectrum remotes forget it when batteries sit dead for weeks. For GE, RCA, or other brands, use the full Hisense TV remote codes list instead of this Spectrum table.

When this will not work: there is no SETUP button, the TV is a Hisense Roku model, or you need the Hisense home screen. A working code still only gives power, volume, mute, and sometimes input.

Method 2: Run Spectrum auto-search without a code

Auto-search walks the remote through stored TV codes for you. Use it when 11756, 12183, and 11314 all fail, or when you do not own a Hisense.

1. Turn the TV on.
2. Hold SETUP until the LED blinks twice.
3. Press TV.
4. Press CH+ once. Wait a second. Watch the TV.
5. Keep tapping CH+ until the TV turns off.
6. Press SETUP right away to lock that code.
7. Press POWER to turn the TV back on. Then test volume.

Go one press at a time. If you mash CH+, you skip past the match and start over. Auto-search can take several minutes. If POWER works but volume does not, you landed a partial match — keep searching.

When this will not work: Hisense Roku TVs ignore the infrared codes auto-search sends. A dead IR LED also fails the search. Point your phone camera at the front of the remote and press POWER. No faint flash means new batteries first, not another code.

Method 3: Program the remote from the Spectrum box

Some Spectrum Guide boxes can push a TV code for you. This is the path when the remote has no SETUP button.

1. Turn the TV and the Spectrum box on.
2. Press the MENU or Spectrum button on the remote.
3. Open Support or Settings.
4. Look for Remote Control or Program Remote.
5. Choose TV, then pick your brand (Hisense if that is your set).
6. The box sends a code and asks if the TV turned off. Answer honestly so it can try the next one.

Menu names move around by box year. If you cannot find Remote Control, use Method 1 or Spectrum's official page. The box programs the same IR TV control — power and volume, not the smart-TV home screen.

Codes failed, or you need Netflix and the Hisense home screen? Open HiRemote, join the same Wi-Fi as the TV, pick your Hisense model, and follow the pairing prompts. For a Hisense Roku TV, the Roku remote online talks to the set in the browser — no app and no Spectrum code.

Fix 1: When no Spectrum code works

When every code and auto-search fail, the problem is rarely a missing number. Work through these in order.

• Fit fresh batteries. A weak LED "confirms" a code at two feet and dies from the couch.
• Aim at the TV. Newer Spectrum voice remotes talk to the box without pointing. TV power still needs a clear shot at the screen.
• Wipe the IR window. The dark dot on the Hisense bezel collects dust. A soundbar can block it.
• Accept the limit. A programmed Spectrum remote will not open VIDAA, Google TV, or Roku apps. For that, use HiRemote or the original Hisense remote.
